Hillary Clinton Gets Narrow Nod In Rockland Presidential Race Results The results of the 2016 presidential election shocked just about everyone. And while the way the vote went in New York was relatively unsurprising, the race in Rockland was fairly close.  As expected Hillary Clinton won New York and its 29 electoral votes but the race in Rockland was decided by fewer than 7,000 votes.  Clinton received 63,454 votes from the 277 districts in Rockland, amounting to 50.75 percent of the vote, while President-elect Donald Trump received 57,148 votes, or 45.71 percent. Skoufis Holds On, Defeats Schmitt In 99th Assembly District Democratic incumbent James Skoufis held on to defeat Republican challenger Colin Schmitt in the 99th Assembly District race. According to unofficial election results 26,517 votes were cast for Skoufis while Schmitt earned 24,041 votes.  Skoufis is a two-term assemblyman while Schmitt, a member of the Army National Guard and a former staff member of Sen. Greg Ball, is seeking his first term. Stony Point is the only portion of Rockland included in Assembly District 99.

Split Ticket In Suffern Village Trustee Election It's a split ticket in a tight Suffern Village Trustee race.  Democratic newcomer Henry Sussman Republican incumbent Joseph Russo were both elected.  With all 11 districts reporting 2,403 votes were cast for Rusoo, 2,200 votes for Sussman, and 2,073 for Morris.

Wieder Wins In Rockland But Loses Assembly District 98 Democratic Challenger Aron Wieder won more votes in Rockland than Republican Karl Brabenec in the 98th Assembly District race but couldn't overcome Brabenec in Orange County.  According to unofficial election results, 24,899 votes were cast for Brabenec, 16,530 for Wieder.  The portions of Rockland in this district include all of the village of Sloatsburg and parts of Monsey, Kaser, Spring Valley, Montebello, and Wesley Hills.

Caprara Wins Race For Unexpired Seat On Clarkstown Council With just over 81  percent of districts reporting, Democrat Dan Caprara leads Adrienne Carey in the race for a seat on the Clarkstown Town Council.  Carey was appointed in May to fill the unexpired seat on the GOP-dominated council.  According to unofficial election results, 20,966 votes were cast for Caprara, 15,677 for Carey.

Jaffee Wins In Assembly District 97 Incumbent Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D) is leading Republican challenger Joe Chabot in the 97th Assembly District.  According to unofficial election results, 27,573 votes have been cast for Jaffee, 16,692 votes for Chabot. Larkin Wins Senate District 39 Longtime Republican incumbent William Larkin defeated Democratic challenger Chris Eachus in the 39th Senatorial District.  The district includes Stony Point and Haverstraw in addition to parts of Orange County.  With all  districts reporting in Rockland, 53,849 votes were cast for Larkin, 41,098 for Eachus.

Rossman Wins In Ramapo Democrat Michael Rossman has an early lead against Democrat William Weber in the race for unexpired seat on the Ramapo Town Council.  With around 96 percent of districts reporting their votes Rossman has 23,969 votes to Weber's 12,998, according to unofficial election results.  The seat is vacant due to the resignation of Samuel Tress, who vacated his seat to avoid prison time after favoring a zoning change that benefitted a project he held a financial stake in.
