CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Gilchrest Road will remained closed until at least Wednesday as CSX makes repairs to the tracks, according to Vinnie Balascio, spokesman for Rockland County.
The roadway, which serves as a main service road, was closed without notice by the railway on Monday. There was no road closure permit issued to CSX, said County Legislator Laurie Santulli,
"There was no warning this road was to be closed to town, county, or emergency personnel. This closure will impact emergency service response, school bus routes, and local traffic patterns," she added.
Balascio said Town Supervisor George Hoehmann has spoken to CSX to make sure that future closures, such as the upcoming one on Kings Highway, will be better coordinated.
"There's no question this was poorly coordinated," he said. "We have their assurance that we will have improved communications in the future."
Santulli, also reminded residents that CSX is scheduled to fix the "speed bump" on Lake Road on Thursday, Oct. 13.
CSX did not return phone calls for comment.
