Nyack's Weekend Events Include Concerts, Earth Day Celebration, More

NYACK, N.Y. -- The Nyack Weekender has announced an assortment of events taking place locally this weekend.

Friday:

Jazz piano legend Alan Broadbent with Don Falzone will perform at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St., Sparkill. 

The Nyack High School Coffee House will showcase musical performances from students from 7 to 9 p.m. at Nyack High School, 360 Christian Herald Road.

Mozart’s "The Magic Flute" will be fully staged in costume at Nyack College's Pardington Hall on Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Sir Cadian Rhythm will perform rock fusion at 10 p.m. at Olive’s, 118 Main St.

Saturday:

An Earth Day celebration with live music, food trucks and recycling, gardening and composting tips will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Main Street Gazebo, Cedar Street.

All Nyack school district strings students will perform at the Jimmerson String Festival at the Nyack High School Gym at 1 p.m.

Flowers for Peace, a Japanese flower arranging workshop, will be held 10 a.m. at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St., Sparkill.

The "Where We Are Standing: Contemporary Women Artists from Iran" exhibit runs through April 24 Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. at the Hopper House Art Center, 82 N. Broadway,.

Sunday:

The Carnegie Concert Series will present the 40-voice ensemble, Rockland Camerata at Nyack Library from 2 to 4 p.m. Register by calling 845-358-3370, ext. 214.

The Nyack High School Chorus and Grace Church Choir will perform at Grace Church, 130 First Ave., at 4 p.m.

Kiam Records, 95 Main St., will celebrate Record Store Day with live music, classic vinyl and refreshments from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Rockland Symphony Orchestra will present Piano Trios Plus from 4-6 p.m. at Threefold Auditorium, 260 Hungry Hollow Road, Spring Valley.

The Lafayette Theater will screen the Oscar-nominated film "Son of Saul" at 7 p.m. as part of the Jewish Film Festival. The theater is located at 97 Lafayette Ave. in Suffern.

The Historical Society of the Nyacks Museum will present "Nyack Business: Long Before the Malls" at 1 p.m. at Depew House, 50 Piermont Ave. 

The Historical Society of Rockland and the Town of Haverstraw will present an exhibit of Haverstraw history dating back to the 17th century. An exhibit reception takes place at the HSRC History Center, 20 Zukor Road., New City from noon to 4 p.m.
