Putnam County Marks 16th Anniversary Of 9/11

A series of events will be held throughout Putnam County Monday to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Putnam County’s annual Sept. 11 candlelight vigil will be held  at the Putnam Heroes Memorial located at Spain Cornerstone Park at 1 Fair Street Carmel at 8 p.m. Monday.

This year's service will also include a dedication of a new memorial to those citizens of Putnam County who have died as a result of their action in the aftermath of the attacks. Along with the eight Putnam residents who died on Sept. 11, there will be an additional six citizens recognized. 

The citizens honored are former Mahopac residents, Edward Tietjen and John Vaughan, former Brewster residents Thomas Van Doran and Glenn Bisogno and former Kent residents Thomas Kelly and Charles Flickinger.

Putnam Valley is holding its 9/11 remembrance at 6 p.m. at Putnam Valley Town Park at 156 Oscawana Lake Road. 

In Brewster, a ceremony will be held at 2 Stone Ridge Road where the flag will be raised and then lowered to half-staff to honor those who died on Sept. 11.
