New York State Director of Agriculture and Markets Kevin King also was on hand.

"We took a leap of faith 10 years ago and here we are now," said Janet Crawshaw, publisher of The Valley Table magazine, as she made reference to leap year day. Valley Table is the founding sponsor of HVRW and Crawshaw its original champion.

"We started Hudson Valley Restaurant Week with just 70 restaurants and the goal to build the region's reputation as a culinary destination," she said. "Now, with a record 230 participating restaurants, from Yonkers to Rhinebeck, a variety of cuisines and unique settings from historic to urban chic, riverfront to mountainside, the region truly is recognized as a great food destination."

The two week promotion, which takes place twice a year -- in the spring and fall -- starts March 7 and lasts through March 20. It offers diners not only significant discounts-- three-course dinners are $29.95 and lunches are $20.95 -- but it highlights local growers, chefs, winemakers, spirt distilleries and more.
