Professor Valerie Franco will introduce the series during the July 6 lecture and highlight French artists in advance of Bastille Day this month, focusing on Nicolas Poussin.
July 13's lecture will highlight Andre Derain, one of the so-called 'Wild Beasts,' who changed the way people thought of light and color in art and sculpture.
Henri Matisse is the featured painter for the July 20 lecture, and his work changing the way color was utilized in both painting and printmaking will be the focus of the lecture.
July 27 will feature the work of Auguste Renoir, perhaps the best known Impressionist painter. Franco will talk about Renoir's ability to capture light and time through his work.
Each lecture will start at 7 p.m. at the library, 19 Whippoorwill East in Armonk.
