ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. . - "She's a sweetheart," said Rhodes Tavern bartender Joseph Carelli, referring to the statuesque British actress Emma Thompson. "She's fun and bubbly and more beautiful in person."

Carelli would know because last Wednesday, the actress, along with actor Ben Stiller, who were shooting "The Meyerowitz Stories" in Rockland last week, spent three hours at the tavern drinking, taking photos, and having a good ole time.

Carelli said Thompson was seated at a high top at the bar and he recognized her. He was skeptical when a colleague told him Stiller was also there.

"Stillerwas wedged into a corner," he said. "I wasn't sure if it was him."

Carelli approached with a bottle of whisky and shot glasses, and the rest, he says is history. By the end of the evening, Thompson was behind the bar making drinks, and Stiller had warmed up.

"Emma was speaking to me in fluent Italian," Carelli said. "It was a real celebration."

The film, directed by Noah Baumbach, includes Adam Sandler and Dustin Hoffman.

The 78-year-old Hoffman reportedly has grown a gray bushy beard for the film, which shot scenes in Manhattan last month.
