Over 15 people from the program worked for three months on a sign for the Catholic Charities Community Services' office on Hudson Avenue in Haverstraw. By doing this, the RILC allowed the CCCS to avoid having to reallocate funds reserved for helping families to pay for the sign.
RILC participates in the Rockland County Re-Entry Task Force, a program co-chaired by Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe and Department of Corrections and Community Services Bureau Chief Paul Pacheco. Ensuring that housing, employment, and supportive services are available to assist people as they re-adjust to their community is the purpose of the task force.
The wooded sign, stained in three colors, is shaped like the CCCS logo and was unveiled in Haverstraw with RILC Executive Director David Jacobsen and Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann both present.
The RILC is based in New City and was founded in 1987. The organization is one of 37 independent living centers licensed by the state under the New York State Education and Department of Health to advocate and provide support for persons with disabilities and veterans.
