Pat Beukema has been in charge of the toy drive since 1995; Beukema collected 377 boxes in 1995; this year she hopes to collect 5,000 boxes, the story said.

Operation Christmas Child collects items for children ages 2-14. They pack shoe boxes with books, toys, school supplies, clothes, and non-liquid personal care items.

Beukema asks donors to either pick up a shoe box from her or to use one from home, and to add a personal note with a photo and name and address so that the child may write back, the story said. Do not include used or damaged items, war-related toys, such as guns, knives or military figures, seeds, chocolate or food, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins and breakable items, the story said.

Lohud also reported that donors can drop off packages from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays at Grace Baptist Church, 20 Demarest Ave., Nanuet.
