Orangetown Eagle Scout Honors Family's WWII History With Restoration

ORANGETOWN, N.Y. - A local Boy Scout has found a unique way to remember his family's history with World War II by taking it upon himself to replicate the historic sign post at Orangetown's Camp Shank.

As an Eagle Scout, Marco Amendola, led a service project that worked too restore signs and repair other portions of the Camp Shanks Museum, which had been one of the largest staging areas for U.S. troops bound for the European Theater in World War II, Lohud reported.

Amendola told the newspaper that it felt like a natural fit for his service project because of his family's history with the Camp, his great-uncle went through the camp before serving in the Army and his grandfather was a Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater.
