Amy, a young girl suffering from leukemia, had a wish to visit Orlando’s theme parks. As arrangements were being made, however, she died, never getting to see the parks.

It was that moment that drove Henri Landwirth to begin Give the Kids the World Village, a 79-acre nonprofit “storybook” resort in central Florida where children with life-threatening illness and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free fantasy vacations.

Years later, Landwirth accepts help wherever he can get it, even from Valley Cottage’s Santi Express Moving and Storage.

The company’s owner, Sheryl Santi, recently spent a frigid evening in Times Square, personally overseeing the loading of enormous gondolas donated to the central Florida village.

Tractor trailers aren't allowed to enter Times Square, so Santi's team had to shuttle the gondolas from New York City to New Jersey, where larger vehicles donated by other companies were waiting.

“I heard about this project and knew I had to help,” Santi said. “What’s better than using your resources to help bring smiles to children who are dealing with an illness?”

Santi opened her business 40 years ago with her late husband John. The company provides residential moving, commercial moving, pest-controlled climate-controlled storage and packing supplies.
