Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced that Bronx resident Augustus Moore, 29, and Jersey City resident Madisyn Pettaway, 22, are facing a host of charges after allegedly conspiring to commit an armed robbery in New Rochelle earlier this year.

Pettaway is a woman the victim had been dating for approximately six months, Scarpino said.

On Jan. 18, shortly before 5 a.m., while they were at the victim's home in New Rochelle, Pettaway, unbeknownst to their victim, let Moore and two other men into his apartment. After letting them in, Pettaway left the apartment and went to a car parked outside the building.

According to Scarpino, Moore allegedly went into the victim’s bedroom, pointed a gun at him, and told him to get face down on the bed. His mouth was taped shut, and his arms and legs were tied up with tape and clothing. While he was tied up on the bed, he “heard the individuals ransacking his apartment.”

After approximately 25 minutes, the three men left, joining Pettaway in the car, and drove away. The victim was able to free himself, walked through his apartment and reported that jewelry, money, clothing and electronics were missing, including his cellphone. He went out on the street, found a passerby and had that person call local police.

Moore was arrested on May 7 by members of the New Rochelle Police Department. Scarpino said that the arrest of Pettaway is pending.

The pair was indicted by a Westchester County grand jury with:

  • Two counts of first-degree robbery;
  • Two counts of first-degree burglary;
  • Two counts of second-degree robbery;
  • Criminal possession of a weapon;
  • Second-degree robbery and;
  • Grand larceny.

Bail has been set at $75,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond for Moore. He is due back in court on Aug. 8.
