John Joseph 'Jake' McNulty, 89, Of Nanuet

NANUET, N.Y. — John Joseph “Jake” McNulty, 89, of Nanuet, died Oct. 16.

He was born May 31, 1927, in Nyack, to Joseph and Mae (O’Donnell).

He graduated from Nyack High School in May, 1945, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Ithaca College and Columbia University.

McNulty worked for the New York Telephone Company for 38 years and retired in 1985. He was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneer’s Club. He was active as a track and field and swimming official for many years. He also was a member of the Nanuet High School Black & Gold Club and was the organizer for the first “Father’s Day Run.” He was a member of St. Aedan’s Church for 50 years, was an active Knights of Columbus, Piermont and was an honorary member of the Upper Nyack Empire Hook and Ladder Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Scott) McNulty; children, Kathleen (Tom) Serio, John (Sue) McNulty, Diane (Jim) Wenke, Lisa (David) McCord and Colleen Pegley; 15 grandchildren, Thomas, Michael (Jada), Matthew Serio, Kaitlyn and Sean McNulty, Laura, Sarah and Bryan Wenke, Cynthia, Caroline, Christina, Marie Kathryn and JP McCord and Darrin and Hailey Wilkinson; and sister, Mary Katheryne “Honey” (Kaz) Kazemi.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aedan’s Church, 23 S. Reld Drive, Pearl River. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River.
