Car Goes Off Road, Striking Utility Pole In Rockland

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A vehicle struck a utility pole Friday afternoon along Mile Road in Montebello, causing a traffic shutdown that lasted nearly 11 hours, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m., according to police.

The motorist, a resident of the village who was driving a 2016 Subaru, reported the vehicle slid on wet pavement, striking a utility pole and two mail boxes, police said.

No injuries were reported, according to police.

As a result of the utility pole being struck, however, the road was shut down between Charnwood Drive and Druid Court so Orange and Rockland Utilities and Verizon workers could perform repairs, police said.

No power outages had been reported as of 1 a.m. Saturday, according to police.

The road  reopened to travel in both directions around 2:43 a.m., police said.
