The arrest came about when officers responded to a complaint about numerous unregistered vehicles being stored on the lawn of a residence in Pearl River on Tuesday, Oct. 4, around 6:58 p.m, according to police.
During the investigation, the officers discovered that a vehicle belonging to the suspect, identified as Gerci Coronel-Heras, had stolen license plates, police said.
Coronel-Heras was arrested and transported back to Orangetown Police Headquarters; he has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, according to police.
The defendant was released on bail, and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court to answer the charge on Wednesday, Nov. 2, police said.
