Police Say Nanuet Man Lost $2,000 In Phone Scam

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Clarkstown Police are once again warning residents to be wary of fake calls from the Internal Revenue Service after a Nanuet man got scammed out of $2,000, according to lohud.com.

The IRS or other government agencies don't threaten people over the telephone and police warn people to be suspicious of telephone calls and emails demanding personal information, according to lohud.com.

A 32-year-old man was the latest victim after he answered a call on Friday that came across as “1911" and was told by a man with an American accent that the IRS would arrest him if he didn't pay $2,000 owed the federal government. 

Residents who get telephone calls can call the Clarkstown Police Department at 845-639-5800, according to lohud.com.
