New York State Police and officers from Ramapo, Orangetown, Spring Valley, Clarkstown, Stony Point and the sheriff's department will be out in force during the holiday period.

Research shows that high-visibility enforcement can reduce drunken driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.

"Drunk and impaired driving are crimes that can be prevented when drivers adhere to a simple rule: if you decide to drink, don't get behind the wheel. Instead, residents should plan ahead, leave the car at home and designate a driver or use a taxi,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day.

New York's STOP-DWI Foundation reminds local residents to download the free “Have a Plan” mobile app here to help find safe rides home.
