The arrest came about when an officer stopped a motorist, identified as Raymond Ross of Hyde Park, for a traffic violation on Main Street on Thursday, around 11:26 p.m., according to police.
Upon speaking to Ross, the officer noticed that he was slurring his speech and had bloodshot eyes, along with the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, police said.
Ross complied with numerous field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to police.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and taken to Orangetown Police Headquarters; while at the station, Ross refused a breathalyzer test, police said.
Ross has been charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, according to police.
The defendant was released, and is due back in Nyack Justice Court to answer the charge on Tuesday, Dec. 6, police said.
