Clarkstown School Board Expected To Approve Teacher Contracts On Thursday

NEW CITY, N.Y. - It appears an end is in sight to the contract saga in the Clarkstown Central School District.

Members of the Clarkstown Teachers Association and supporters protested the lack of a new contract at a June 2 board of education meeting.

Clarkstown Central School Board President Mike Aglialoro expects the board to vote on a new agreement between the district and the teachers union at their meeting this Thursday.

Aglialoro's said he understands that the Clarkstown Teachers Association ratified the new contract last night. He declined to discuss the terms of the contract and will instead wait until after a vote has been taken at the meeting on June 16.

“I will say that the board was involved every step of the way in regards to negotiations,” Aglialoro said when asked whether he expected the board to approve the agreement. He added that the board is well aware of the terms of the contract and that he’d be surprised if it doesn’t pass.

Previously, the board and the CTA's bargaining committee came up with a contract that was subsequently voted down by the CTA's members. The bargaining committee then took feedback from members and renegotiated with the board. The agreement that came from those negotiations is the one that was ratified by the CTA, Aglialoro said.

The Clarkstown Teachers Association have been without a contract since Aug. 31, 2015 while the Rockland County Civil Service Employees Association Local 844-the district's ground, maintenance, and custodial staff-have been without a contract since June 30, 2015.

Both groups protested the lack of an agreement at the past two Board of Education meetings in May and June.

CTA President Jon Wedvik did not return a request for comment.
