This national recognition is from the Association of Community College Trustees Northeast Regional Faculty Member Award. Baker will be recognized Oct. 7 at the ACCT National Leadership Congress.

The award is based on Baker's scholarly work and teaching. Evaluation criteria include demonstrated excellence in teaching, innovative programs launched and leadership in solving challenges facing community colleges, said the announcement.

Achievements include a grant-funded program in partnership with Binghamton University titled “SUNY Bridges to the Baccalaureate,” increasing opportunities for underrepresented minority students in research fields of the biomedical sciences.

For leadership at Rockland, Baker is recognized for developing and co-chairing the Math/Science Honors Program, part of the Sam Draper Mentor/Talented Student Honors Program.

“Receiving the award is not only a validation of all my work and efforts toward one of my main priorities, which is to have my students be all that they can be, but by having them successfully meet their goals, transfer to a four-year institution of higher learning and become movers and shakers in their respective careers as members of their communities,” he said.
