HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- From strength and agility training to speed work, powerlifting and explosive jumps to bolster upper body strength, a hitting academy, individual and group fitness training, and youth camp, Breathe Baseball in Haverstraw addresses the "whole" athlete.
Partners Michael Nassisi and Justin Ottman opened their facility in 2014. It was a natural fit for the seasoned baseball players, who grew up on baseball, played in college and in independent leagues.
Both have a background providing fitness training.
Ottman has a master's degree in education while Nassisi's degree is in kinesiology and physical education.
Optimally, athletes train their entire body, explained Nassisi.
"If you think of a triangle, the movement skills are at the bottom, the ankles, knees and shoulders, then the sides have the jumping and sprinting for speed and agility, and the strength part, powerlifting, upper body work, and the other side has the baseball skills, pitching mechanics and how to swing a bat are part of it."
The facility puts emphasis on youths with programs for kids, ages 6-8, middle and high school, ages 13-18, and college players.
"We founded it in 2014 when it was just an idea and a business card and we trained at other facilities; now we have our own facility in downtown Haverstraw," Nassisi said.
The partners work with athletes individually and in groups to develop comprehensive and long-term athletic and fitness programs.
One-on-one training, group training and rental options are available.
Breathe Baseball offers complimentary evaluations and assessments.
It is located at 61 Maple Ave., Haverstraw.
