Solarize Nyack/Rockland Program Deadline Extended To Aug. 1 NYACK, N.Y. -- Solarize Nyack Plus' community purchase discount program will be extended until Monday, Aug. 1. The program covers all of Rockland County and was spearheaded by leaders in the communities of Nyack, Orangetown and Clarkstown. Originally scheduled to end June 30, the program was extended another month by the Solarize team due to increased demand. Preserve New Fairfield Hosts House, Garden Tour NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The semi-annual Preserve New Fairfield House and Garden Tour returns on Sunday, July 17. The self-guided tour will visit locations all around New Fairfield, including the rumored site of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio's honeymoon. The tour will begin at 11 a.m. at the Community Room above Senior Center (33 Route 37). Tickets are $25 and can be purchased until 12:30 p.m. Locations will be revealed the day of the tour. Proceeds will benefit Preserve New Fairfield's dedication to the life and stories of the town's historic structures.

Plumtrees Bridge Bypass In Bethel Set To Open BETHEL, Conn. -- The Plumtrees Bridge bypass will open on Monday, July 18 due to demolition and the replacement of the old bridge. The diversion will allow motorists to go through the intersection as the bridge is demolished. It will run through October.

Darien Home Robbed Of Safe Containing Gun DARIEN, Conn. -- A safe containing a gun was stolen from an Arrowhead Way home, according to the Darien Times. The resident reported on Tuesday, July 5 at around 7 p.m. that the master bedroom had been robbed of two safes during a home burglary, the Darien Times said. The safe containing the Glock 9mm handgun had been bolted down, and a second floor window in the home's master bathroom was broken, reported the Darien Times. New City Fire Department Builds On Training NEW CITY, N.Y. -- New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1 recently built on previous FAST team training with a drill at the Rockland County fire training center. The probationary members went through hose drills simulating an initial attack on a fire. More experienced members conducted search- and-removal drills of a downed firefighter.

Long Hill Condo Development Application Withdrawn SHELTON, Conn. -- Developers recently withdrew their initial application for a zone change and building of 14 condos at 405 Long Hill Avenue, according to the Shelton Herald. In a letter to Planning and Zoning Chairman Ruth Parkins, site attorney Dominick Thomas revealed his clients are looking into other uses for the one-acre property, the Shelton Herald reported.
